TRAFFIC OPTIMIZATION OF TRANSPORT VEHICLES BETWEEN FRANCE AND ITALY
InterAlpes The project aims to create an alternative to road transport for the traffic of new cars between the main plants in Western Europe, connecting the basins of Barcelona, Paris and Turin, attracting trades Spain-France-Italy now using the all-road or maritime mode and avoiding the "empty return." In the terminal of Lyon, the loads coming from Paris and Barcelona will be partly focused and down mixed to two services "navettamento" cross-border through the Fréjus tunnel, up to Orbassano.
The costs of the new service (232 million €) concern, in particular, the use of rail traction services of external operators, rental of railway wagons through long-term contracts (which include the maintenance of the same) and the exploitation of existing intermodal terminals. Other cost items relate then the services of pre-post haulage, which depend on the filling hypothesized by train (93% - 139,277 car). The implementation of the new service can make a high economic benefit, amounting to approximately EUR 33,765,134, which ensures the sustainability and capacity of the initiative.
